Cable Operated Pumping System The
Vann pumping system brings to the petroleum industry new methods of
enhanced oil and gas recovery. This technology can be used in new and
mature oil wells and in the de-watering of gas wells. Throughout the
United States there are many oil and gas wells in danger of being
plugged or abandoned. These mature wells, sometimes called "stripper
wells," could possibly be made economical again by employing a short
testing and evaluation phase, then implementing the new pumping method.
This pumping method is designed as an alternative to conventional "rod and pump jack methods" utilized in oil well production today. Instead of rods to convey the up and down stroke of the downhole pump, cable is used. In place of pump jacks, an electronic and hydraulic operated system is used. Not only is the pumping method (using cable) unconventional, it offers many options and advantages that conventional pumping does not offer. The tower pumping unit is a computerized hydraulic lifting system that may be installed on any well that uses a downhole reciprocating pump to produce the well. The size of the unit and the length of stroke can vary with the depth of the well. Longer strokes are possible as compared to many conventional pumping systems. Strokes per minute can be regulated to match production coming into the well. There are many advantages that should reduce overall total lifting cost. No workover unit is needed to run or retrieve the downhole pump. The system can be pulled by a special cable truck for any repairs needed. The equipment is designed to operate safely with no exposed moving parts on the surface equipment. The pumping system is environmentally pleasing with a much smaller footprint and a clean wellsite. This method has been under development and testing by Roy R. Vann, Sr. for approximately six years. |
